charter cutzz mobile barbershop logo

Overview

“Charter Cutzz,” is a mobile barbershop that was established in 2013 and offers premium haircuts for men in San Jose, CA. Previously, the company had been operating solely on Instagram and lacked a brand identity and logo.

Design Process

My client wanted his brand identity to be associated with class and sophistication. While completing a morphology matrix to help with my brainstorming process, I associated the word “classy” with a suit and tie and a barbershop with a pair of scissors.

As I played around with different thumbnail combinations I ended up incorporating the two ideas together and what better way to give a subtle nod to the company’s brand identity than by combining the classy bow tie with an iconic tool from a barbershop.

The font I chose to pair with my logo is called “American Typewriter.” I ended up choosing this font because of the contrast the thinner strokes have against the dark bold shapes of the scissor logo mark and because I associate typewriters with the turn of the century, an era where men wore suits more often.

solution

My final design solution for Charter Cutzz Mobile Barbershop was a logo mark that used simple shapes and clean lines to evoke a visual brand identity that is classy, sophisticated, and established.

“Well done, Abegail! Excellent use of design principles! Simple and effective.”
